Zed integration
Add Modellane to the Zed editor as an OpenAI-compatible language model provider in settings.json for the agent panel.
Zed lets you add OpenAI-compatible providers to its agent panel. Declare Modellane and its models in settings.json and add your key in the agent settings.
Zed is a code editor with a built-in agent panel. It accepts OpenAI-compatible providers, which call the Chat Completions API (POST /v1/chat/completions).
Declare the provider#
Open your Zed settings.json (command palette: zed: open settings) and add Modellane under language_models:

capabilities.tools | true for models that list Tool calls |
capabilities.images | true only for models that list Vision |
capabilities.chat_completions | true, so Zed uses Chat Completions |
Add the key#
Zed does not read API keys from settings.json. Open the agent panel settings, find the Modellane provider and paste a key from API keys. Zed can also read the key from an environment variable named after the provider; see the Zed documentation for the exact name.
Verify#
Open the agent panel, select the Modellane model and send "Reply with the word ready." A reply means the provider works. An authentication error points at the key, and model_not_found at the model id.
