Cline integration
Configure the Cline coding agent in VS Code to use Modellane as an OpenAI-compatible provider with your own API key.
Cline can use any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Add Modellane as the provider in its settings and pick a model from our catalog.
Cline is a coding agent for VS Code. It can use any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, so Modellane plugs in through its provider settings and the Chat Completions API (POST /v1/chat/completions).
Configure Cline#
- Install the Cline extension from the VS Code marketplace and open the Cline panel.
- Open the settings (gear icon) and choose OpenAI Compatible as the API provider.
- Fill in the fields:

- Under the model configuration, set the context window and max output to the values in the models table, and turn on image support only for models that list Vision.
- Save.
Agents send long prompts with many files and tool results, so check the context length of the model you pick. Cached prompt tokens are billed at the lower cached input price, which makes repeated agent turns cheaper.
Verify#
Start a new task with a short prompt such as "Reply with the word ready." A reply means the base URL, key and model id are right. An authentication error points at the key, and model_not_found at the model id.
