Terms of service
The rules for using Modellane: eligibility, your account and API keys, prepaid balance and token billing, plans, model output and the limits of our liability.
Agreement
These terms apply to Modellane's website, console and API (together, the "service"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms, the acceptable use policy and the refund policy, and you acknowledge the privacy policy. Send any question to info@usemodellane.com.
We may change these terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes, and if a change materially affects you we will tell you by email before it takes effect, where your account has an email address. If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you do not accept them, stop using the service and delete your account.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the service.
If you use the service for a company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for it, and "you" in these terms includes that organisation.
The service
Modellane gives you API access to language models offered under Modellane model names. The models run on infrastructure operated by third-party model inference providers; Modellane does not develop or train them.
Models in the catalog, and their names, features, limits and prices, may be added, changed or retired, and a model may be temporarily unavailable. We make no promise that the service will run without interruption or errors.
Your account and API keys
Give accurate information when you create your account. You are responsible for everything done with your account and your API keys, including requests made by your applications and their users.
Keep your keys secret and do not put them in code or pages that others can read. If you think a key has leaked, revoke it from the console right away; requests made with a key before you revoke it are charged to your account.
On an account without email, the recovery code is the only way back if you forget your password. If you lose both, access to the account cannot be restored.
Your applications and end users
If you build a product on the service, you are responsible for how your end users use it, for making sure they follow the acceptable use policy, and for giving them any notices and obtaining any consents the law requires for the content they send through your product.
Prepaid balance
Modellane is prepaid. You add balance by buying a credit pack or an optional monthly plan, and the charge for each request is deducted from your balance. There is no automatic top-up.
Balance is shown in US dollars and can only be used to pay for the service. It is not money held for you, earns no interest, cannot be transferred to another account and cannot be exchanged for cash, except as the refund policy describes or the law requires.
Top-up balance does not expire. Plan balance follows the monthly plan rules below.
How requests are charged
Requests are charged per token at the prices shown for the model when the request starts: input tokens at the input price, output tokens at the output price and, where a model lists one, cached input tokens at the cached price. Reasoning tokens a model produces while working out its answer are charged as output tokens, even when they are not returned in the response.
Before a request starts, an amount is reserved from your balance based on the size of the prompt and the maximum output allowed. The final charge never exceeds that amount, and any difference returns to your balance. If your balance is not enough for the reservation, the request is rejected.
Interrupted and failed requests
A request that fails before any output reaches you is not charged, and its reservation returns to your balance.
If you cancel a request or close the connection after output has started, the request stops and is charged for what was used. If the model does not report its token counts for such a request, the charge is estimated from the size of the prompt and the text already sent to you, and it never exceeds the amount reserved.
Payments
Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor, which acts as merchant of record for your purchase. Its terms also apply to your payment, and it may add applicable taxes at checkout. Your card details never reach us.

Monthly plans
Modellane offers optional monthly plans. A plan renews automatically every 30 days at its price until you cancel it, and each paid period adds the plan's included balance to your account. The plans, their prices and their included balance are shown on the Balance page of your console before you subscribe.
Plan balance is spent before your top-up balance. It expires at the end of each period: unused plan balance does not roll over to the next period and cannot be converted into top-up balance.
You can cancel your plan at any time from the Balance page of your console. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period: until then the plan stays active and its balance can be used, and it does not renew. Partial or unused periods are not refunded.
Plan changes
Upgrading to a larger plan takes effect immediately: the new plan's period starts that day and your remaining plan balance carries over into it. To move to a smaller plan, cancel your plan and choose the smaller one after the current period ends.
If a plan payment is refunded or charged back, the plan ends and the remaining plan balance of that period is removed from your account.
If we change a plan's price or included balance for future renewals, we will announce it to your account's email address before the renewal it applies to; you can cancel before then.
Acceptable use
Your use of the service, and your end users' use, must follow the acceptable use policy, which is part of these terms. Some models are tuned to refuse fewer requests; that does not change what the policy allows.
Your content and model output
You keep whatever rights you have in the content you send. As between you and Modellane, you may use the output you receive, subject to these terms and the law. You are responsible for the content you send and for how you use the output.
Output is produced automatically and is not reviewed by us. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, offensive or similar to output given to others. Check it before you rely on it, and do not use it as the only basis for medical, legal, financial or other decisions that significantly affect people.
We do not store request content, so a completion cannot be retrieved from us later; keep the ones you need on your side.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close your account, or revoke your API keys, if you break these terms or the acceptable use policy, if the law requires it, if your use puts the service, other customers or our providers at risk, or if a payment is reversed. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first. Balance left on an account closed for breaking these terms is not refunded.
You can delete your account from the profile page at any time. Any balance left on the account is not refunded on deletion.
No warranty
The service and all output are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and the accuracy of any output.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Modellane is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from or related to the service.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for all claims related to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim and 100 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Modellane against third-party claims, and the resulting losses and reasonable costs, arising from the content you send, your applications, your end users' use of the service or your breach of these terms.
