What Modellane collects, why we never store your prompts or completions, how long request records are kept, who we share data with and your rights.
About this policy
This policy explains what information Modellane processes when you use our website, console and API (together, the "service"), why we process it and how long we keep it. For any question or request about your data, write to info@usemodellane.com.
If we change this policy, the date at the top of this page changes too. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will also tell you by email before it takes effect, where your account has an email address.
Account information
If you sign in with Google, we receive the name, email address and profile photo link that Google shares with us. If you create an account without email, we keep your username and your password, and the password is stored only as a hash, never as plain text. Your recovery code is stored the same way.
Your account also holds your project name, your notification preferences and your API keys. API keys are stored only in hashed form; after creation we can show you only a short prefix of each key.
When you sign in, your IP address and browser information are stored with your session. To limit abuse, we also use your IP address in hashed form in request counters.
Request records
For each API request we keep a record without any content: when it started and finished, which model you called, which of your API keys made it, whether it was streamed, its status and error code, timing figures such as latency, token counts, the charge and your balance afterwards, and a reference returned by the model inference provider for that request.
We use these records to bill you, to show you your usage, to answer support and billing questions, to detect and prevent abuse, and to keep the service running. We also keep daily totals of usage and charges per account.
Your prompts and completions
We do not store the content of your requests. Prompts, messages, images and completions are processed in memory only for as long as it takes to serve the request and are then discarded. They are not written to our database, logs, queues, backups or support tools, so neither we nor anyone else can retrieve them from us later.
We do not use the content of your requests to train or improve any model.
To answer a request, we send its content to the model inference provider that runs the model, only so that it can generate the response. We do not store that content, and we do not send it anywhere for any other purpose.
Payment information
Payments are handled by our payment processor. We receive and keep the amount, currency, date and status of each payment, the plan or credit pack it was for, and the processor's references for the payment and any refund or dispute. Your card details never reach us; they stay with the payment processor.
How long we keep information
Request content is not kept at all. Per-request records are kept for 180 days and then deleted. Daily usage and charge totals and payment records are accounting records and are kept without a time limit.
Your account information stays until you delete your account.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your information or use it for advertising. We share only what is needed to run the service, with these categories of service providers: model inference providers (the content of each request, only while it is being served), a payment processor that acts as merchant of record (your payments), a cloud hosting provider (the website, API and database) and authentication and email services (Google sign-in, and the emails you send to our support address).
We may also disclose information we hold when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order, or when it is necessary to protect the safety of people or the security of the service. Because we do not store request content, we cannot disclose it.
These providers may process information in countries other than the one you live in.
Cookies and browser storage
We use only the cookies that keep you signed in and one preference cookie that remembers whether the console sidebar is open or closed. Other display preferences stay in your browser's local storage and are not sent to us.
We use no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking tools.
Your rights
From the profile page you can correct your information and download a copy of your data (account, daily usage, request records and payments) in JSON format. You can also delete your account from the same page; deletion cannot be undone.
Deletion removes your profile, sessions and request records, and revokes your API keys. Internal billing ledger entries, which hold only request identifiers and amounts and no content, are not removed at deletion; they expire on their own within 90 days. Daily totals and payment records are kept for accounting, but in our records they are no longer linked to your name or email address. Any remaining balance is not refunded.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict certain processing or to complain to a data protection authority. For any such request, write to info@usemodellane.com.
Children
The service is only for people who are at least 18 years old. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we may close it.
